Domestic Abuse

Domestic abuse can happen to anyone. Unfortunately, the problem is often overlooked, denied or excused.

Usually, domestic abuse occurs when one person in an intimate relationship or marriage tries to dominate and control the other person. Abusers would use fear, guilt shame, and intimidation to wear the victim down and keep them under total control. Abusers would also threaten and hurt the victim or those around them.

Domestic abuse may happen among all age ranges, sexual orientations, ethnic backgrounds, and economic levels.

Although, women are more commonly victimised, men also become victims of abuse.

Abusive behaviour is never acceptable, regardless of whether it is coming from a man, a woman, a teenager, or an older adult. Anyone deserves to feel valued, respected and safe.

Recognising abuse is the first step to getting help.

Please see our VICTIMS OF ABUSE page on information about how to make a claim in cases of abuse.
